September.26.06We learned about the sound card, modem and video card in this class.A modem stands for modulate and demodulator. There are two types of modem. One of them is the one that can be attached externally, and the other one comes in an expansion board. You can attach the external one through a port. Bascally it is the device that is used to let the computer transfer data through a cable or through a telephone line. The information that get's transferred through is in the form of analogue waves, while the one that is stored in the computer is digital. The modem converts this from one form to another. As for the one that comes in an expansion board, you can attach on a vacant expansion slot which comes with the motherboard.A video card is what allows the computer to show the visual graphics that you see. If you only use your computer forhomework or e-mail, you don't really need an expensive video card. It's also an expansion card that you have to plug into your motherboard. Most sound cards are automatically built in when you buy your computer. A sound card is very important since it is what ables the computers to input sound (such as a microphone), output sound (like speakers), and control sound stored in a disc. It's also an expansion card, so you can attach them through one of the unoccupied expansion slots on the motherboard. A PCI stands for Peripheral Component Interconnect , which is one of those slots on the motherboard. beside the normal slots, it just started coming out around 2004, . It was desgined to replace PCI bus.Well that's all I can say for that class. My gosh so much information. Oh well.
September.25.06In that class we did mostly listening and understanding. The first 10-15 min of class we did all the right type. Then we all gathered at the tables in the library. Mr.Case explained how the motherboard, Bios, and Ram works. The motherboard is the most important part of the computer beacuse its where everything is connected including the CPU.
As for RAM it stands for random access memory.
It only has/ rememberes the information when the computer is on. Although it's not like the hard drive for it dosen't store information. So when the computer is truend off it looses evreything.
Ram is what is used to open your files but the disk drive is the one that actualy stores your files. The example that Mr.Case was in a way the hard disk is like a bookshelf and the RAM is the desk. Also a disk drive can only store 1GB of information. When you power up your computer, the BIOS tells each component of the computer what it is and what it's role is. So bascally it is what remindes each compenent of the computer what it's supposed to do.If there was no BIOS, a computer would be nothing more then a pice of plastic and metal with electricity going through it. The computer would have no idea what to do.The computer is always gettin advanced and improved at a fast speed so for the last decade poeple are actualy getting ripped off. The reason for that is when you buy a computer after a year or two the computer would be out of date already!!!!After that the bell rang. That was all we had time to cover that period. I hope i remembered everything.
September.23.06 Abacus- over 1000 years ago is when it was created. Input device - keyboard, mouse, scanner, camera, graphic tablet output device - monitor, speakers, printer electricty can either be on or off....which when you get a cricut. Computer can understand on and off (electicty for example turning it on and off) how do u get computer to proccess more? In a computer's number system there are only TWO numbers. Which are 0 and 1.1- ON 0-OFF In computer we go up by 2s insetad of 10s. For example:10 decimal system: 1 10 100 1000 10000 100000 Binary (computers way):1 2 4 8 16 32 64-------->(binary code which comp uses) EXAMPLES: 0 1 (EQUALS 2) 1 1 (EQUALS 3) 0 1 0 1 0 1 1(EQUALS 41) How many diffrent pices of information can i do with 6 digits in binary number? whts the biggest number i can write? I have 63 diffent possablities *everything that goes into the CPU is proccessed as binary*digital system (10) based on our fingersevery single piece of information i sent to a computer...0 or 1 is a BIT. Byte = is 8 bitsA thousand bytes (and 24) - kilobyte 1024 is a binary number comp only understand that so it cant be just a thousand since its not in the binary code. how many bits in a kilo byte? - 8 thousand bites....8 thousand pieces of info A megabyte is a million bytesGagabyte is a thousand gega byteA thousand mega bytes is a gagabytesfloppy disk - 1.44mg - a million and a half bytes USB Keys - 32 mega bytesterabytes is - a thousand gega bytes
setpember.20.-6everyone finished prestning and mr.case started talking about monitors. he xplained how ther eis tweo types of montiaors which are LCD AND CRT. LCD STANDS FOR Liquid Crystal Display. bascaly its two piceses og glass and a liquid crystal surface sandwiched in between.
september.19.06today we started persenting our projects and my groupe finished.
september.15we got what hardware and software means. They mean:hard ware: a part of the computer you can touchsoft ware: the programes inside the computerWe talked about gettin a project
September.11.06 Today we just got our first assignment. That is we get into partners and research a computer part. We either choose a hard or easy computer part. Me and my partner chose a hard part since we get extra credit for that. The part we ended up gettin was RAM Memory which stands for Random Access Memory. We have until next week to work on our project.
Sepetember.8.06
Today in class Mr.Case was teaching us about how to use email. We looked at email sites like Gmail, Yahoo, and goowy. So basically learned how to send, attach, what to press on when sending a email. Also about the meaning and use of CC and BCC in a email.
CC: stands for carbon copy. This is a useful tool when you want to send a copy of a email that you sent to someone else. So basically you first write in the email of the person that you want to send the message to in the to box. Then if you also want to send another copy of the exact same thing to someone else you type in the address in the CC box.
BCC: stands for blind carbon copy. This has the same feature of carbon copy with one exception. The exception is that if you use the BCC box, the person who you orginaly sent the email to will not know that you sent another copy of that same message to someone else. Unlike the CC where it shoes that you sent the exact same message to someone else.We also learned how to create and access blogs. A blog is a tool that you use for the purpose of posting something and allowing everyone on the intrenet to view it and add comments about it.
